What is Spondylolisthesis?

Under normal conditions, the vertebral column has an alignment. One vertebra follows the other. Spondylolisthesis occurs due to abnormal lateral plane-displacement of a lumbar vertebra over the other. The spinal cord and nerve roots are compressed due to this displacement, and pain and loss of strength occur. The treatment of spondylolisthesis is surgery in general, depending on its severity. TLIF (Transforaminal Lumbar Interbody Fusion) method is its generally accepted treatment. In this procedure, performed at the patient’s lumbar region, the intervertebral disc is completely evacuated after screws are inserted on the vertebrae, and the disc is replaced with a metal cage to fuse the two vertebrae and prevent height loss. During treatment planning, it is necessary to decide according to the patient’s status.
